That guy at the open mic who told me my 4-track recordings were 'cheating'

He cornered me by the espresso machine after my set and said real musicians book a proper studio, not huddle over a Tascam in their bedroom. I still think about it because his band's live mix was so blown out you couldn't hear the vocals at all. Anybody else run into purists who look down on home recording?

Yeah gatekeepers are the worst. That guy probably cant even dial in a proper reverb on his board. I've heard indie records recorded in a closet that sound better than some of the sterile stuff coming from pro studios these days. As long as the songwriting is tight and you know how to use your gear, nobody cares where it was recorded.
