That one harsh mix critique from a stranger fixed my whole recording setup

Back in 2011 I posted a demo of my band's first practice tape from a basement in Akron, and some random user said my snare sounded like a wet paper bag and my vocals were buried under the guitar. I spent the next 6 months learning how to actually mic a kit with just two mics and started bouncing vocals up in the mix before sharing anything. Has anyone else got a brutal comment that turned out to be the best advice they ever got?

That two mic setup trick is actually the old Glyn Johns method, so you were already on the right track without knowing it. The wet paper bag comment is still funny though, sounds like that dude knew his stuff.
