The night our bassist's amp caught fire mid-song in a 100 year old attic studio
We were tracking a demo in this attic space in Nashville that had zero ventilation, and during the third take the bass amp started smoking. It wasn't a huge flame, more like a glowing orange spot on the speaker cone, but the smell hit us all at once. I yanked the power cord while the drummer threw a damp towel on it, and we lost about 15 minutes to airing the place out. The crazy part is the take before the meltdown actually had the best groove we'd done all night, so we kept it and just overdubbed the bass with a DI box. Have any of you ever salvaged a ruined session recording instead of starting from scratch?
