Vent: I lost 3 hours of tape last Tuesday because my Tascam DR-05 was set to 96kHz and my laptop choked
So last Tuesday my band got together in my buddy's garage in Akron to track two songs we've been messing with for a while, and I was running the room mic into a Tascam DR-05 I borrowed from work. Recorded 3 hours of takes, drums and all, feeling great about it. Got home, plugged the SD card into my laptop, and the files stuttered and dropped out every few seconds because I had the thing set to 96kHz and my 2016 laptop just could not keep up. Lost basically everything except a 40 second chunk. Spent Wednesday re-tracking with the same setup but bumped down to 48kHz and 24 bit, and it played back clean the first time. If you're recording to a cheap handheld, check your sample rate before you hit record, it's a dumb 30 second fix that saved my whole weekend. What sample rate are you all running on your basement setups, or am I the only one who learned this the hard way?
