Went back to my hometown basement studio and the 8-track tapes were still labeled

Stopped by my old drummer's place in Dayton last month and found a box of those labeled reel tapes from 1994, and hearing our raw first take with the blown-out kick drum made me realize we should've never let the producer 'fix' the mix back then, has anyone else gone back to an early recording and heard something better than the final version?
