Chose the 400-page fan rewrite over the published novel

Found this epic take on a classic series, 400 pages of slow character setup before the plot even moved. Picked it over the actual published sequel everyone hypes. Best call I made all month. The payoffs hit way harder because you sit with the characters so long. Anyone else prefer the long forum versions over official releases?
