Found a storytelling trick that finally clicked for me
I used to rush every story I wrote online, trying to hook people in the first paragraph. Last month I tried holding back the big reveal until page 3 and my comments section doubled. Anyone else find a pacing trick that worked?

Doesn't holding back too much risk losing people before they get to page 3 though? I actually found the opposite works better for my readers, they want the good stuff upfront. Different audiences I guess, but I'd test both ways to see what your specific crowd responds to.

Had the same exact thought until I tried it @maryadams. Held back the main twist for two full paragraphs and my readers actually stuck around more. Guess the slow burn worked for this crowd, but yeah your mileage will totally vary depending on who you're writing for.
