Just realized the reason I quit 3 epic fantasy books at page 50 is my own fault
I used to drop anything that did not grab me in the first couple chapters, and I blamed the books. Then a friend handed me a paperback in a Denver airport with a cracked spine and said just get to page 120, no matter what. I forced myself through the boring part where nothing happens but a kid walking a road, and by page 200 I was ignoring my boarding call. Now I do not judge a story until it has had a real chance to lay its groundwork, and some of my favorites are ones I would have tossed before. What is the slowest book you stuck with, and around what page did it finally click for you?
