The 2GB rar file that taught me to check file dates before downloading
I spent three evenings reading through a 2011 forum thread about a game mod pack, only to realize the download link was dead and the whole thread was just people reminiscing about it. Finally got smart and started sorting old threads by last reply date. Anyone else burn hours on a dead link before noticing the timestamp?

Checked the dates too but honestly sorting by last reply never worked for me... those old threads with 50 pages of people just talking can still have a working link buried on page 30 that nobody bumped. Got a mod from 2009 last month because the uploader kept it on their own site instead of a file host. The date only tells you when someone typed, not if the file is still alive somewhere.

Man, digging through 50 pages of people just saying "thanks bro" and "reup please" is its own special kind of pain. You basically went mod hunting with a metal detector while everyone else was staring at the timestamp like it meant something. I swear half the old threads are 90% bump posts and one dude on page 34 who actually kept his files on his own site like a legend. That's how you know the real ones never trusted the file hosts in the first place.
