The debate over chapter length in web serials is getting weird

I've been reading this one story on a forum since 2022. First 50 chapters were short, maybe 1500 words each, real punchy. Then around chapter 60 the author started dropping 8000 word chapters with tons of description. Some people in the comments love the extra detail, others say it kills the pacing. Which side do you land on? Do you prefer a quick hit or a deep dive per update?

Friend of mine started reading a serial that had 2000 word chapters for a year, then the author suddenly jumped to 10,000 word posts. He said the long ones felt like he was reading two chapters at once and he started skimming the middle parts. Now he only comes back when the short chapters are dropping again.
