The librarian in Reno handed me a 600 page brick and said 'give it 200 pages, trust me'
I was at the downtown Reno library about 6 months ago just grabbing something short for a trip and this older librarian kept pushing a dusty 600 page novel I had never heard of on me, saying 'give it 200 pages, trust me.' I took it home, hated the first 180 pages, almost tossed it twice, and then somewhere around page 210 it clicked and I finished the whole thing in four nights. How do you all decide when a slow book has earned the right to keep going, and has a random stranger ever pushed you into a book you ended up loving?
