Had a talk with a blogger who runs a site about 1900s button collecting
She said her blog gets 12 visits a day but she's been doing it for 7 years because she likes it, and that made me realize I was too focused on growing an audience instead of just writing what I actually care about.

Oh come on, it's a blog about old buttons, not quitting your job to join the circus. 12 visits a day for 7 years is just a hobby, not some deep life lesson about passion over metrics.

But what counts as a hobby vs a real passion project anyway? 12 visits a day is basically nothing, but 7 years of doing anything consistently has to mean something to the person doing it, right? I mean if she was still excited to post about buttons after that long, doesn't that kinda prove her point about not needing big numbers to keep going? Or are we saying hobbies don't count as real dedication?
