PSA: A reader told me my blog's font was 'like reading a ransom note' and they were right.
I switched from using 8 different typefaces to just one clean one, and my bounce rate dropped by 30% in a month. Has anyone else gotten a piece of design feedback that totally changed their site?

What did your bounce rate look like before? Mine was a disaster. I had a client tell me my color scheme was giving them a headache, and honestly, they were being kind. I was using neon green on gray. Switched to normal colors and people actually stay on the page now.

Neon green on gray sounds like a visual alarm clock. My bounce rate was basically a 100% exit poll. People took one look and hit the back button like their mouse was on fire. It was a masterclass in how to clear a room. Your client was a saint for only mentioning a headache. Switching colors is the difference between a website and a warning sign.

Switching to normal colors and people actually stay on the page" - honestly, I wonder if that's always a good thing. I've got a friend who runs a gardening blog and she deliberately kept her awful 90s-style layout because the kind of person willing to stick around through that is exactly the kind of person who reads 3000 words about mulch. Sometimes bad design filters out the wrong audience and keeps the right one.
