Shoutout to the blog reader in Ohio who flagged my dead RSS feed (and fixed how I pick blogs)
About 6 months ago a guy named Dave from Columbus emailed me to say the little blog I run had a broken RSS feed and that I'd been "shouting into a bucket" for 8 months. That one line was a gut punch but he was right, so I set up a free feed checker and now I run every blog I want to share through it before I post about it. I also stopped picking blogs just because the homepage looked nice and started subscribing to each one for 2 weeks first, which sounds slow but has filtered out a bunch of sites that quietly stopped posting in 2023. So far that's how I found a tiny blog about fixing old radios in someone's garage in Akron, and it's still my favorite one. What's your test for telling if a blog is still alive before you share it?
