Vent: the blog I bookmarked 3 years ago finally hit 1000 views and I think I'm half of them
Back in 2022 I was killing time on a rainy Tuesday in Tacoma and fell down a rabbit hole of pencil blogs. Most were dead links or people showing off $80 sharpeners. Then I found this one called The Pencil Cabinet run by a retired draftsman in Ohio. No ads, no photos, just paragraphs about why a specific German sharpener from the 70s cuts cedar cleanly. I read the whole archive in one night, maybe 60 posts. Last week he posted that the site passed 1000 total views since he started, and he sounded genuinely happy about it. I did some rough math and I've probably opened his posts 400 or 500 times myself, just rereading the one about lead grades when work gets slow. His comment section has like 6 regulars total. So really, am I the reason this site even hit the milestone, and what tiny blog are you personally keeping alive?
How many of his six regulars are actually you on different devices? Bookmarks sync weird and if you're hitting it at work, on your phone at lunch, and on the couch at night, that's three separate visit counts piling onto his total without you even thinking about it. The fact that he's happy about 1000 views says he's writing for the love of it, so keep reading and maybe leave a comment once in a while, because a real reply means more to a guy like that than the counter ever will.
