Appreciation post: the woman at our Tuesday book club who asked why I loved a book I actually hated
We were at Rosie's Diner on 5th talking about a novel I gave 2 stars, and when she asked what I loved about it I made up a whole answer on the spot. Then she said "you just described the book you wish it was, not the one you read" and the whole table went quiet. How do you all handle it when someone in your club catches you bluffing about a book?
Wait, she said "you just described the book you wish it was, not the one you read" and the whole table went quiet? That is brutal. I would have just sat there staring at my coffee like it could save me. The fact that you made up a whole answer on the spot is wild to me, I can barely fake liking a book I actually liked. Honestly she sounds sharp and also kind of scary and I am not sure which one is worse for a book club.
