Can we talk about how my book club nearly fell apart over a single character's death?
Last month at our meeting in Linda's living room, we got into it over whether a secondary character dying off screen was lazy writing or intentional. Half the group walked out after 45 minutes of arguing about a fantasy series we've read for 3 years. I didn't think a fictional death could split a group of 12 adults like that. Now I'm wondering if I should bring up the author's choice to skip the funeral scene at our next meetup. Has anyone else had a book club fight get that heated over something small?

Oh man, that reminds me of the time my old book club almost split over whether a side character's betrayal was justified or not. We spent like two hours going back and forth, and Susan actually brought out flowcharts she made at home to prove her point. It got so weird we had to take a week break before the next meeting, and even then people were still side-eyeing each other over the potato salad.

Flowcharts for a book club betrayal. That's commitment I just can't wrap my head around.
