Finally saw the flip side of banning phones in our book club
We argued for 2 months about banning phones during discussion, I was all for it. Then last Tuesday, our most quiet member read a passage about grief that hit her hard, and she pulled up a poem her late dad wrote on her phone to share. That moment showed me the ban was killing personal connections, not helping focus. Anyone else loosen their rules after a real human moment broke through?

That moment sounds really meaningful, but honestly it makes me want to keep the rule even more. You can still share a poem or a memory without needing a phone in your hand, print it out or read it from a book. Sometimes the whole point of stepping away is to force everyone to be present with each other, not just pull up whatever comes to mind on a whim.
