My buddy Mark's reading group up in Portland did the spoiler thing once. They ended up arguing for an hour about whether the main guy should have taken the job or not. Honestly, it sounded way better than their usual polite chats.

Portland book clubs sound like they take fiction way too seriously. I'd last about five minutes before asking if anyone wanted to order pizza instead.
