I swore I would never host book club at my place, then I counted 14 leftover wine bottles from other people's homes
For two years I voted against hosting at my apartment because I have a small living room and no good chairs. Last Tuesday I actually counted the stuff we left behind at other people's houses: 14 wine bottles, 6 plates of brownies, and one very sad cheese board from the Mitchell reading. That is when it hit me that the host is not doing us a favor, the host is the one person who never has to pack up and drive home with a casserole dish on their lap. We read Bel Canto last month and the best part of the night was arguing in someone's kitchen for 40 minutes after the official talk ended, which only happens when nobody is rushing to leave. I offered to host next time and picked a book under 300 pages so we actually finish it. Now I just need 6 chairs. Does anyone have a good folding chair that does not wreck your back by chapter three?
