I used to roll my eyes at those 'reading journals' people bring to book club

My sister gave me one for Christmas and I tried it for our last 3 discussions about 'The House in the Cerulean Sea' - writing down my reactions as I read made me remember way more details for the debate. Has anyone else found a system that helps them keep track of character names in books with big casts?

Sticky notes on the character pages worked wonders for me.

Man, I was the same way - thought journals were just busywork. Tried it for a big fantasy series and now I can't read without jotting stuff down, way easier to keep everyone straight.
