My sister in Omaha said our book club should stop picking bestsellers and start reading books that actually challenge us.

She argued that our group just echoes the same safe opinions for months, and her point about needing more real debate over easy agreement made me reconsider our whole approach.

Our book club in Tampa read "The Overstory" last year and it completely changed my view. I used to prefer lighter books, but that one sparked our first real argument about the ending. Now I see how a challenging book can make the whole group think harder.

Reminds me of my friend's book club in Austin. They read "The Silent Patient" and it blew up their usual nice chat. Two members got into a full-on debate about whether the main character was lying or just broken. They were still texting about it days later, which never happened with their usual picks. It totally changed how they pick books now.
