Pro tip: rereading chapters after a big debate saved my club
My book club spent 20 minutes arguing over whether the main character was justified in leaving town, and I finally went back and read chapter 7 again. Turned out I missed a line about her kid needing medicine that totally changes the moral weight of that decision. Has anyone else caught a key detail on a second pass that shifted your whole take on a book?

Wait, does everyone do this or am I just a slow reader who keeps missing important stuff? I totally get that thriller example though because I had the exact same thing happen with a mystery novel where the main character kept saying "I don't remember" and I thought it was just bad writing. Then I flipped back and there was literally one line about a head injury on page 30 that I skimmed over. Made the whole book make way more sense and honestly made me feel dumb for being so mad about it online.

I used to be the person who just powered through books and never went back, but a similar thing happened to me and it totally changed how I read now. I got into this huge argument with my friend about a thriller where the detective seemed like he was just being stubborn, then I skimmed chapter 2 again and realized I missed a sentence where he mentions his partner died on that exact street. Made the whole character click for me and I actually apologized to my friend about being so sure of myself. Now I always flip back when something feels off, it saves so much pointless arguing.
