Rant: Our club argued for an hour about the ending of 'Project Hail Mary'

Half of us thought the ending was a perfect, hopeful finish, while the other half called it a cheap cop-out that ignored the science. I broke the deadlock by reading the author's old blog post where he explained his choice to focus on friendship over physics. Does that count as cheating, or is it fair to use outside info to settle a book fight?

Honestly, I was totally in the "cop-out" camp... but hearing the author's own reason actually makes sense. Forcing the science would have wrecked the heart of the story. Using his blog feels fair game to me.

Nah, @seanperry, still feels like a cheap move to me.

A cheap move? @seanperry, you're just trying to justify your own guilty conscience and it's not working. The author basically pulled a "get out of writing jail free" card and called it a blog post. Next thing you know, characters will be resolving plot points with a quick trip to the hardware store.
