The audiobook narration debate got heated at my club last night

Someone in my book club said listening to an audiobook isn't really reading, and I nearly choked on my coffee. We went back and forth for 40 minutes until our newest member, a retired teacher, pointed out that her students with dyslexia absorb more from audio than print. That got me thinking about how we gatekeep something as personal as how a story enters your brain. I finished 14 audiobooks this year while commuting to my job in Denver, and I remember every plot twist just as well as the physical books on my shelf. Has anyone else faced this same argument at their club, or are we just the weird ones who can't agree?
