Unpopular opinion: our club picked a 900 page book and gave everyone 8 weeks, and 4 people quit by week 3
This happened at our meetup in Denver last month, and by the time we hit the 300 page mark only 5 of us were still showing up. If your club is voting on doorstops, do you set page limits or let people bail quietly?
Why do people always treat a long book like it's some kind of badge of honor? I've noticed this same thing everywhere, not just books. My buddy's running group picks a marathon for week one, the new guys drop out by mile 6. Same with people signing up for a 30 day fitness thing and quitting on day 4. We love to go big at the start and then act shocked when most folks can't keep up. If a club keeps picking doorstops, the quiet ones just stop showing up and you never even know they left. Setting a page cap per week is just being honest about what normal humans can do.
