Vent: That book club member who marked up my library book
Last month at our local library book club, this woman named Carol borrowed my copy of 'The Night Circus' for a week. She returned it with yellow highlighter all over the pages. Not just one or two lines. She highlighted entire paragraphs in three different colors. Then she left sticky notes on half the chapters with her own opinions written in tiny handwriting. I was so mad I couldn't even speak when she handed it back. She said she was just 'engaging deeply with the text'. Has anyone else had a club member do something like this to a borrowed book?

Does the library know Carol defaced a book that wasn't even hers?

Michael is asking the real question here. Carol basically treated your personal book like a college textbook she was cramming for. I bet if the library found out, she'd be banned from the checkout desk for a month. Honestly, if someone did that to my copy of The Night Circus, I'd be tempted to highlight her face in the book club photo.
