Wasted $200 on a "rare" first edition that turned out to be a reprint
I bought a supposed first edition of a classic novel from a seller on a marketplace site. Paid $200 because they had photos of the copyright page and a dust jacket. When it arrived, the binding felt off and the paper quality was thin. Checked the printer's code and it was from 2002, not 1947. The seller ghosted me after I asked for a refund. Anyone else get burned by fake vintage books online?

Sellers are scammers. @ivangrant got played the same way.

Honestly, a buddy of mine got tricked the same way with a signed copy of a sci-fi book. The signature looked perfect in photos but turned out to be a printed facsimile when it arrived. He ended up stuck with it too because the seller deleted their whole account.
