That $18 antique tin of mints made me lose a whole afternoon
I saw this rusty old tin of peppermints at an estate sale in Tacoma, looked like something from the 1920s with this wild art deco lid. Paid 18 bucks just for the box, didn't even care if the mints were ancient or whatever. Got home, tried to pop it open and the hinge was completely seized, like welded shut. Spent 45 minutes with needle nose pliers and a butter knife trying to pry it without denting the paint. Finally got it open and the mints were just dust, but the inside had this cool embossed logo I wanted to clean up. Then I spent another two hours trying to get the rust off the hinge without ruining the patina. Whole thing took me until dinner and I still haven't figured out what to put in it. Anyone else ever get a cool box that fights you harder than the thing cost?
