PSA: That $9 hot sauce bottle with the hand drawn cat label almost ruined my pantry
Last Tuesday I grabbed a bottle of hot sauce at a shop in Asheville just because the label had a little cat wearing a chef hat, and now it has been sitting on my shelf for 6 days doing nothing. I used to buy sauce by actually reading the heat level and ingredients, but somewhere along the way I flipped and now the art is the first thing I check. I have 14 bottles in there and 9 of them are basically spicy ketchup that I never touch. The cat one tastes like sweet vinegar with a tiny kick, so it goes on eggs and nothing else. I am not saying skip the cool art, just flip the bottle over before you pay, because $9 for a label hurts when the sauce is boring. Does anyone set a rule for when the package is enough and when the stuff inside has to actually be good?
