One bad review taught me to actually read the fine print on service contracts.
A customer left a 1 star on my lawn care page last May. Said I missed a scheduled treatment. I was sure I showed up. Checked my records. I did show. But the contract said "weather permitting" and it rained that day. I never clarified that with clients before. Now I send a text the night before explaining the policy. Saves headaches. You guys have a story where a negative review made you change something?

Had a buddy who ran a small pressure washing side gig. Got ripped apart in a review because his client's driveway had spotting after a service. Turns out he used a certain cleaner that needed to be rinsed a specific way but the instructions on the bottle were tiny and he glossed over them. Not his proudest moment, you know? He switched brands after that and now he actually keeps a little notebook with all the chemical specs and temps for different surfaces. That one bad review basically forced him to stop winging it and actually learn his own tools.

Read somewhere that most pressure washing mistakes come down to people not understanding water temperature and chemical dwell time. Your buddy's story reminds me of that guy on YouTube who tested like 20 different concrete cleaners and filmed how long each one needed to sit before it actually worked right. Some of those chemicals leave residue if you rinse too fast or too slow. Good on him for keeping a notebook, that's more than most side gig guys do.
