The hardware store on 8th in Boise still writes receipts by hand and I stopped trusting online reviews because of it
I went to Bergstrom's Hardware over on 8th Street to grab some hose clamps and the guy at the counter pulled out a carbon copy receipt book, the kind my dad used at his shop back in the 90s. That little paper slip got me thinking about how I pick where to spend my money now. I used to check reviews before trying any new place, but I swear half the 5 star spots I've tried in the past 2 years have been a letdown, and some 3.2 star places have been great. What gets me is that Bergstrom's has like 40 reviews and a 4.7, but the actual reason I keep going back is that the owner remembers my truck and asks about my dog, and no review site captures that. It makes me wonder if we're all just reading the same 20 loud opinions over and over. How do you all weigh a place's star rating against just walking in and seeing how it feels?
