That whole 'show dont tell' note finally clicked after 8 months of ignoring it

I was posting weekly drawings of my dog to a small art forum and someone kept telling me to stop adding captions like 'he is sad.' Last week I redrew an old piece without the text, just the dog's ears down and his paw on an empty bowl. It got triple the replies and people actually asked what happened to him. Has anyone else gotten a critique they fought for months before realizing it was right?
