Just realized I picked the wrong gasket maker and my valve cover is weeping again
Pulled the valve cover on my 289 last Saturday to fix a leak and stood in the parts store aisle for 20 minutes picking between the black RTV and the cork gasket. Went with the cork because it was $6 cheaper and the counter guy said his dad always used them. Four days and about 60 miles later there is a fresh oil spot on the cardboard under the car. Turns out I over tightened the bolts and split the cork near the back corner. Anyone got a torque spec they actually trust for these old covers, or should I just go back to RTV?
