My uncle in Detroit told me to quit warming up my 327 before driving, and it's been bugging me for two weeks
He said letting a carbureted small block idle for 10 minutes in the driveway just washes the cylinder walls with gas and fouls the plugs faster, and you should drive it easy right away instead. I've done the 10 minute warm up my whole life because that's what my dad taught me on his Chevelle, so hearing it from a guy who rebuilt engines at a plant in Flint for 30 years made me stop and think. Now I let it run for maybe 60 seconds, keep it under 30 mph until the temp gauge moves, and honestly it runs smoother than it did before. Is the slow idle warm up thing actually bad for these old motors, or did he just have a strong opinion?
