Pro tip: I swapped my impact wrench for a hand breaker bar on lug nuts and the studs thanked me
Last spring I stripped two lug studs on my '65 Falcon using a 1/2 inch impact on the highest setting, so I switched to a 24 inch breaker bar and a torque wrench set to 85 ft-lbs. The studs have stayed clean for 6 months now, and I can actually feel when a nut is cross threading instead of just hammering it on. Does anyone else torque by hand on old steel wheels, or am I being too careful?
