Stop polishing chrome with the same rag you use for paint

Caught a guy at a car show last Saturday buffing his bumper with a rag that had compound residue all over it, that grit scratches the clear coat in seconds. I learned that after ruining a 1967 Mustang fender back in 2018, so how do you all keep your polishing cloths separated?

Oh man, this hits home. I keep three separate buckets in my garage now, one for polish, one for wax, and one for compound, and I write on the handles with a sharpie so I never grab the wrong one by accident. Also, I wash them after every single use with dish soap, which breaks down the oils and grit, otherwise that residue just sits in the fibers and comes back to bite you later. It sounds extra but it saves you from that sinking feeling when you see swirl marks appear under the sun.
