Stopped by a barn sale outside Kutztown and the owner had 40 years of maintenance logs in a shoebox
I was driving back from Kutztown last Saturday and saw a hand painted sign for a barn sale, so I pulled over. The guy was selling off his late father's stuff, and tucked under a workbench was a shoebox full of repair logs for a 1953 Plymouth Cranbrook. Every oil change, every set of points, every valve adjustment from 1961 to 2004, all in pencil with the mileage and the weather noted. I stood there reading for 20 minutes. It got me thinking about how my own records are just a pile of receipts stuffed in the glovebox. The owner said his dad wrote down the temp and humidity for every tune up because he swore the car ran different on damp days. I passed on the box because it wasn't mine to keep, but now I wish I'd made an offer. Does anyone here keep a real written log for their car, and if so what do you actually write down besides date and mileage?
