Overheard a guy at the shop trash talking people who bag their comics

I was at my LCS on Wednesday pulling my pull list, and this dude next to me said anyone who bags and boards their books is just hoarding plastic and doesn't actually read them. He claimed he keeps every issue loose in a shoebox and it's the only honest way. I get the argument about not sealing away the story, but I've seen what humidity does to unbagged books in Florida summers, and it's not pretty. My copy of Amazing Spider-Man #361 from 1991 still looks near mint because I bagged it the day I bought it, so is he really onto something or just being contrarian for attention?

That $4 bin sale in Gary made me rethink how I read back issues

I stopped at a flea market outside Gary last weekend and found a longbox of 90s Image books for $4 a piece. When I got home I realized half of them had ads for mail order comics I never knew existed, and now I'm digging through every cheap bin I can find for old promo pages. Anyone else hunt for those weird insert ads or am I just going down a rabbit hole?

Can we talk about the guy who reads every issue but forgets the plot

Sat next to this dude at a con in Portland last month, he had a full longbox from the 90s and could name every cover artist but couldnt tell you why Spider-Man was fighting anyone in that arc. He said he just likes the collecting and the smell of the paper, never actually reads them page by page. Is that a common thing or did I meet the one weirdo who treats comics like stamp albums?

Guy at my LCS said reading online is cheating, got me thinking

Was flipping through a dollar bin at Cosmic Comics in Portland on Saturday and this older dude next to me goes "you kids read everything on a tablet now, that's cheating." I laughed but honestly I've read twice as many books this year on my phone than in print. Does the format really change how much you love a story, or is there something to actually holding the comic that I'm missing?
