Can we talk about the guy who reads every issue but forgets the plot

Sat next to this dude at a con in Portland last month, he had a full longbox from the 90s and could name every cover artist but couldnt tell you why Spider-Man was fighting anyone in that arc. He said he just likes the collecting and the smell of the paper, never actually reads them page by page. Is that a common thing or did I meet the one weirdo who treats comics like stamp albums?
