Finally caved and bought the full Hickman Avengers run for $60.

I always said Marvel omnibuses were overpriced paperweights, but after borrowing the first volume from a friend I couldn't stop thinking about it. Anyone else find one run that just hooks you against your will?

Oh man, I know exactly what you mean. I did the same thing with Brubaker's Captain America run a few years back. Kept telling myself I'd just read the trades, but after the first couple issues I was hooked and had to have the whole thing collected properly. There's just something about having the full story laid out in front of you, especially with a writer like Hickman who plans everything so carefully. $60 for that set sounds like a solid deal, honestly. Once you connect with a writer's style like that, it's hard to go back to just reading bits and pieces here and there.

It's funny how that pattern shows up everywhere, not just with comics. I did the same thing with my kitchen knives - bought a cheap set, then bought one decent chef's knife, and before I knew it I had a whole magnetic strip full of them. Once you start caring about the quality of a thing, it's hard to settle for the halfway version.
