Guy at my LCS said reading online is cheating, got me thinking

Was flipping through a dollar bin at Cosmic Comics in Portland on Saturday and this older dude next to me goes "you kids read everything on a tablet now, that's cheating." I laughed but honestly I've read twice as many books this year on my phone than in print. Does the format really change how much you love a story, or is there something to actually holding the comic that I'm missing?

Did he also tell you that reading the paper version makes your glasses stronger? Last I checked, the story's the same, only my thumb gets a workout from holding the phone.
