Honestly, comic book fans making their own cover art and sharing it online is a cool thing I've seen more of.

Pick a cover you love and break down why it works. Trace it if you have to, that's how I learned anatomy for Spider-Man poses. Use free software like GIMP before spending money. Too many new artists skip the basics and their art looks off. Stick to one character at first. Upload to places where other artists hang out, not just your friends.

Tried tracing a Frank Quitely cover once to see how he layers chaos. His lines look messy up close but make perfect sense from a distance, which taught me about flow. @jordanc68 is right about skipping basics making art look off. I spent months drawing just Batman's cowl before moving on. Uploading to art forums got me real feedback, not just pats on the back from friends.

Remember my friend tried to copy a comic panel but skipped the basic shapes. Ended up with a weird looking Superman that even @jordanc68 would cringe at. Honestly, they only fixed it after going back to draw boxes and circles for weeks.
