I had to choose between a mint copy of 'X-Men' #101 or paying my car insurance.
Found the comic at a con in Greensboro for $300, which was exactly what my six-month premium cost. I stared at the book for a solid ten minutes, thinking about that first Phoenix splash page. I paid the insurance bill, obviously, but it felt like a real test of being a grown-up fan. Anyone else ever have to make a choice like that where the 'right' answer just stinks?

Man, that "test of being a grown-up fan" line hits hard. Been there, making the boring choice over the cool one. It really does stink.

Remember when we all thought being an adult meant getting to buy the cool cereal. The lies.

Oh man, I feel this one right in my wallet. I once had to decide between a nice copy of Amazing Spider-Man #300 or getting my car's check engine light looked at. Spoiler alert: the light won, and I still don't have that comic. My car still makes a weird noise sometimes, so in my experience, that was probably the right call. But every time I see that issue in a shop, I do a little math in my head like, "Well, how much can I really afford to be stranded on the side of the road?" Your mileage may vary, but grown-up decisions are just expensive I guess.
