Just realized most people think comic fans only read superhero stuff.
My coworker saw my Saga trade and said 'I didn't know you read real comics'. It matters because it ignores whole genres like horror and indie books. What's a non-superhero series you had to explain was a comic?

Ever try explaining that The Walking Dead was a comic first?

Honestly, is that coworker comment worth getting worked up about? It's just a casual thing people say without thinking. Most folks outside comics only know the big superhero movies. Having to explain something like "The Walking Dead" or "Sin City" is just a quick chat, not a big deal. It feels like looking for a reason to be annoyed sometimes.

You know, I used to roll my eyes at stuff like this too. I figured it was just people being dramatic about a simple comment. But then I had a coworker who dismissed The Walking Dead as just a TV show, and I tried to explain it was a comic first. She literally said, "Comics are for kids, right?" and walked off. That kind of shut down any real conversation, and it made me realize sometimes that "casual" comment actually hides a bigger dismissal of the whole medium. So I get why people get worked up, even if I wish they didn't have to.
