Remember that week in 2012 when the local shop had a huge sale on back issues?
It was the summer after high school, and my shop in Tempe marked down all their 90s stuff to a dollar each. I spent like 40 bucks over three days and filled so many gaps in my X-Men collection. The owner even threw in a free poster because I was there every afternoon. It felt like a real community spot, not just a store. Do you guys still have a shop that does stuff like that, or is it all online now?

Man, was it really that deep though? Sounds like you just bought some cheap comics and got a free poster. I get being nostalgic but calling it a community spot feels like a stretch.

Actually read a whole article about this last week. It talked about how those old shops were more than just stores, they were hangouts before the internet. People would meet up there every week for new comics and just talk. Maybe it sounds small now, but back then that was the spot to find other people who were into the same weird stuff. That feeling of a shared place is what people miss, not just the stuff they bought.
