Showerthought: A kid at the comic shop totally changed how I see collecting

Honestly, I was at my local shop in Burbank last Tuesday, just flipping through back issues. This kid, maybe ten years old, was holding a copy of 'Ultimate Spider-Man' #1 and told his dad, 'I don't care if it's graded, I just want to read it.' Ngl, it hit me hard because I'd been saving for a slabbed copy of that exact book for years. That moment made me remember why I got into comics in the first place. Has anyone else had a simple interaction like that shift your focus back to the stories?

That "I just want to read it" line is the whole hobby right there.

You hit on something big there, @max808. That simple line gets to the heart of why we collect books, doesn't it? We can talk about editions or covers, but the real goal is just getting the story into our heads. It's easy to forget that basic joy when you get caught up in the hunt for the perfect copy.
