Took my nephew to his first comic con and got schooled by a 10 year old

I spent weeks prepping him on the big names, you know, Batman, Spider-Man, the usual. We get there and this kid in line behind us starts asking him about obscure 90s Image Comics characters like Spawn and Savage Dragon. My nephew just stared at me blankly. The other kid's dad gave me this knowing smile. Learned that day you can't just stick to the basics with new fans. How do you even start catching up on decades of lore without feeling totally lost?

My buddy tried to get his daughter into Star Wars. Just the original trilogy, right? They went to a toy store and some kid asked if her favorite Jedi was from the High Republic era. She had no clue. He said they spent that whole night just looking up different timelines on Wookieepedia. Started with the big movie eras and branched out. Said it was less about knowing everything and more about learning where to look stuff up.

Honestly that's the best way to do it. Trying to memorize all the lore right away is a lost cause. Did your buddy say if she got into the digging part, like actually enjoyed looking stuff up? Because that's the real test, if she finds the chase fun or just feels like it's homework.
