Tried to get my crew into comics with a 'Marvel #1' night and it went sideways
I brought a stack of classic first issues, like Amazing Spider-Man #1, to our weekly hangout thinking it would be a hit. Instead of getting into the story, they spent the whole time pointing out how the old ads were better than the comic itself and asking how much a mint copy is worth. I learned that trying to force your hobby on people, even friends, just makes them focus on the wrong stuff. Has anyone else had a plan to share comics totally backfire?

Guess you found the world's most expensive ad catalog.

What did you think they'd find interesting about Amazing Spider-Man #1?

Wait, are you serious? They went for the ads? I mean, the Romita Sr. art alone should have been the draw, that Ditko run was gold too. Guess they were trying to find a 1963 Pepsi coupon or something in there? Idk, maybe I'm just old school but the storytelling in that issue is what makes it a classic, not the back page ads for sea monkeys.
