Went to a local comic convention thinking I knew everything about indie comics
I walked into a small con last month in a hotel ballroom, figured I'd breeze through the artist alley in 20 minutes. Three hours later I was still there talking to a guy who does his own risograph prints of horror comics based on local ghost stories. I learned that a lot of these creators are just one person running a table with 50 bucks worth of paper and a dream, and their stuff is way more interesting than the big publishers. Has anyone else been caught off guard by an artist they'd never heard of before?

Three hours later I was still there talking to a guy" - that's exactly what happened to my buddy Mike at a con in Pittsburgh. He went to grab a coffee and ended up spending an hour with some lady who draws these super weird black and white comics about cryptids in national parks. He was late to meet us for dinner cause he bought three of her prints.

Did your buddy at least get the girl's name or a card or anything? It's wild how at cons you can just fall into a whole rabbit hole with some random artist and lose all track of time. I swear those cryptid comics sound like something I'd end up buying too, that kind of stuff is gold. Were the prints actually good or was it just the vibe that sucked him in?
